Countersinking is commonly used for holes that need to accept a flat head screw or fastener. A countersink screw has a taper that is largest at the head and reduces in size until it reaches the threaded shaft of the screw. After drilling a hole in the table for the screw you will be using and the matching hole in the sheet metal use this punch to make a depression in the sheet metal so the screw head sits below the surface of the sheet metal. We offer 3 different styles of countersinking which is shown below.

There is another production method that can be employed which is to form the countersink shape in a cnc punch press or fly press. In this video i go over punching countersunk holes in sheet metal with a unipunch. No c sink needed no metal removed from the sheet metal and more strength at the area of the screw head. Creating a countersink in the metal allows the head of the screw to rest below the surface of the metal and provides the full structural strength of the screw.

Depending on part configuration material type and thickness countersink size etc we can employ two methods of adding countersinks to parts. These were created with a dimple die punch which could create a countersunk hole through multiple sheets of aluminum. When placing an order or requesting a quote please specify the required dimensions based on the diagrams shown on the right side of the picture for each style.
